Select weekend MARC trains on the Penn Line will now have bike cars! Service will start tomorrow, Saturday, December 13th. Bicycle trains are denoted by a small bicycle icon next to the train number, and the schedule is published here.
MTA says that you can bring any full-sized, two-wheeled adult or child bicycle on board. Tow-trailers are not allowed, but training wheels are okay. For now this is only weekend service and only on the Penn Line, but we anticipate that demand will justify expanded service into weekday trains, giving commuters more choices for final leg transport.
We also hope that if the bike car is successful that MTA will add a bike car onto and expand its Brunswick service, giving tourists and residents the option to take the train to Brunswick to spend the day bicycling or hiking back along the C&O Canal.

Thank you, MTA, for hearing cyclists’ needs and meeting them!
