On Saturday, December 27, 2014, Tom Palermo lost his life in a tragic hit and run traffic crash. Tom was an experienced cyclist riding in the bike lane on the 5700 block of Roland Avenue. The offending driver fled the scene, leaving Tom to suffer alone. Tom later died of injuries at Sinai Hospital. As a custom bicycle frame builder, Tom was well known in the community and will be missed by his family and friends.
Please join friends of Tom Palermo for a memorial bike ride on Thursday, January 1st, 2015. For those riding, please meet at 3:30pm at Bishop Square Park on the northwest corner of the intersection of Charles and University, adjacent from the Cathedral of the Incarnation.
The Diocese has opened the Cathedral of the Incarnation for parking, restrooms, prayer and meditation beginning at 2:30pm.
After a moment of silence for Tom, we will bike to the scene of the crash at 5700 Roland Avenue to place a white memorial bicycle in honor of Tom. Friends and members of the community who are not riding bicycles are welcome to join us at this location. The group will then depart south on Roland Avenue toward Hampden to informally gather in celebration of Tom’s life at Gallery 788 and De Kleine Duivel located at 3602 Hickory Avenue.
The family of Tom Palermo ask that this ride foster positivity and a celebration of Tom’s life.
