Celebrate Loch Raven at Project Clean Stream

On Wednesday, April 1, 2015, the Baltimore City Board of Estimates approved a Trails Stewardship Agreement between MORE (the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts) and the city’s Department of Public Works. This agreement establishes a framework by which quality single-track, natural surface trails can be identified, created or improved for all uses, specifically mountain biking.

As part of the agreement, MORE and other environmental groups will perform trail maintenance, education outreach and other initiatives including Project Clean Stream. While being held annually, this year’s event marks the first official act of partnership under the new agreement. While anyone who gets their drinking water from Loch Raven should participate in this event, the biking community should be especially eager to kick in a couple hours of fun work (plus there’s a free lunch at noon).  (Let us know you’re coming on the Facebook event page)

I’ve participated in Project Clean Stream for the past few years for a variety of reasons:

• it’s MY water supply that I prefer to be cleaner at the source
• always a good time to work with friends
• shows that the mountain bike community is more than just riding
• gives me a chance to practice my single track skills while pulling a BOB Trailer full of assorted trash and tires.
• sets a good example for the next generation of mountain bikers….and Americans.

This year, I’m really excited about chipping in! After riding the trails of Loch Raven for 25 years, this will be the first opportunity to work with the Department of Public Works under this new partnership.  C’mon out, help clean your water supply and get a good free lunch at the end.  See you Saturday, April 11th!
