2020 Larry’s Ride Announcement

To keep you safe during the COVID-19 pandemic Bike Maryland is CANCELING the actual ride of LARRY’S RIDE 2020. We did not make this decision lightly as we are working hard to encourage and promote bicycling, increase safety, improve conditions, and provide a voice for all bicyclists in Maryland. In fact, given the increase in bicycling for transportation and exercise — this work is more critical now than ever. 

As many of you know, Larry’s Ride is named for Larry Bensky who was struck by a car and killed in 2010 while bicycling in Baltimore County. As Maryland’s only statewide cycling organization, Bike Maryland began hosting this ride in Larry’s honor in 2010 to fund our advocacy for pro-bicycle legislation and our work with government agencies, including police departments, to protect the rights and well-being of bicyclists.

That’s why we are launching a 2020 Larry’s Ride Campaign. We still need to reach our annual Larry’s Ride fundraising goal of $40,000.  Please take a minute right now to honor Larry and support Bike Maryland’s critical bicycling advocacy by choosing the best ways YOU can help us reach our goal:

1. Make a $35, $50, or $100 tax-deductible contribution in honor of Larry to fund Bike Maryland’s mission. Supporters who donate $50 or more will receive discounted 2021 ride registration and supporters who donate $100 or more will also be mailed a special-edition 2020 Larry’s Ride Jersey with attempted delivery by the October 17, 2020 ride date. 
   
2. Ask your local riding club to become a Bike Maryland “Bike Club Member” with a donation of $250 or more. Gifts of $2,500 or more by August 21st will qualify clubs to have their logo on the 2020 Larry’s Ride Jersey. Many local riding clubs add a few dollars to their annual membership to support our work as it directly benefits club members every time they get on a bike. 
   
3. Sponsor 2020 Larry’s Ride through your company or business to support Bike Maryland’s work to protect Maryland bicyclists while reaching hundreds of engaged riders and community leaders with your brand. Sponsors’ logos will be featured on our ride donation page and sponsors who give more than $2,500 by August 21st will have their logo featured on the 2020 Larry’s Ride Jersey.   Email jen@bikemd.org to learn more or download the Sponsorship Form
