MORE: Patapsco Epic

Rockburn Branch Park and Patapsco Valley State Park in Baltimore and Howard County have great mountain biking. Whether your advanced or just getting your feet wet, the Patapsco Epic held by MORE is a great way to see what the local park system has to offer!

The Patapsco Epic will tour Rockburn Branch Park and Patapsco Valley State Park. Patapsco Valley State Park follows a steep valley with trails snaking up and down each side of the valley, so expect the excitement of a roller coaster as you’ll be going up and down most of time with very little flat terrain when on the single track. Many climbs are ¼ to ½ mile in length with some being quite steep ascents. The trails are also somewhat rocky and rooty, not so much that you feel that you are on rocks all day, but enough that you know they are there. This makes for a challenging course! Although no one section is excessively demanding, the course keeps you working most of the time with very little flat or road sections to rest on. You’ll know you’re an Epic rider when you successfully complete one of the following courses:

The Kid’s Ride-Bring the kids to enjoy a special ride geared just for them! MORE and Trails for Youth partner to lead a well organized kid’s ride that will offer options for each child’s ability. We’ll have a mini-epic kid’s ride which will cover approximately 5-7 miles inside Rockburn Branch Park and is a great choice for a younger rider or child who hasn’t been mountain biking frequently. For the more advanced child riders, we’ll also have a longer course option that will tour into Cascade Falls and hit one of the aid stations for a full epic experience! Exact mileage is TBA but expect to be out for about 3 hours with frequent breaks along the way. Parents are not required to participant but are encouraged to register along with their child.

The REI 25 Miler – This course will showcase Avalon, Hollofield, Pickall, and Rockhaven. Expect your adventure to last about 4-5 hours for a beginner with a high level of fitness, intermediate, or advanced rider. This course will be a mini EPIC!

The 35 Miler – This course will showcase Avalon, Hollofield, Daniels, Alberton, Pickall, and Rockhaven. Expect your adventure to last about 5-8 hours for an intermediate to advance rider. This course will be EPIC!

The 50 Miler – The course will showcase Avalon, Hollofield, Daniels, Woodstock, McKeldin, Alberton, Pickall, and Rockhaven. Expect your adventure to last about 7-10 hours for an intermediate to advance rider. This course will be beyond EPIC & will redefine what you think is EPIC!
